About the Event

Presented by the Mental Exchange in collaboration with the Clinical Connector

Our panel discussion will focus on highlighting personal characteristic and attributes, and how our leadership roles often correlate to internal beliefs and values. Positive influential leadership is essential for our communities to develop, expand, and economically grow. Community members also have a duty to instill values and effective leadership skills in our younger generation, our youth. After all youth are our leaders of tomorrow!

About the Mental Exchange Movement:

OUR MISSION: To uplift, inform, and restore our Black & Brown communities. Social justice policy reform by utilizing a solution focused mobilization of community leaders. We uplift our communities by offering mental health support groups and wellness services. We provide informational and educational services about the basics of social, political, and economic principles. We restore our community connections between civilians and government representatives by providing resources and advocating for our minority community members. Located in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, we offer virtual community outreach events and collaborate with other organizations and like-minded Leaders throughout the US. Our movement seeks to create less division and more unification by empowering ourselves and other minorities to recognize areas of disproportionate treatment and unequal access. We work together to strategically build connections, create access to services, and effectively work against systemic oppression.

About Council Member Jocelyn Route:

The newly elected Honorable Jocelyn Route is the youngest African American female to hold a seat as a Council Member in the Town of Bladensburg, MD which was established as a Town in 1742. The Town of Bladensburg is known to be the home of William Wirt and a Tavern to President George Washington. Jocelyn Route was elected as Council Member in October of 2019.

Council Member Route is a mother of all boys and truly enjoys being a mother! Council Member Route is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Council Member Route is  employed full time by the Washington DC Government as the Strategic Planning, Policy & Engagement Officer.

Council Member Route strives to provide sustainable resources and partnerships through strengthening community connections and providing opportunities for shared outcomes among businesses and residents. Council Member Route believes through a strong sense of community, a physically and mentally healthy community can grow and thrive. Council Member Route envisions the Town of Bladensburg as a small town that collaborates, is accountable, responsive, and remains ethical and efficient in the Town of Bladensburg’s operations  when providing services to the community!

About Financial Specialist Shawn Jackson:

Born in Kingston Jamaica to an entrepreneurial mom, Shawn Jackson was exposed to business and money management at an early age. As a licensed investment representative and financial expert, Shawn’s passion is to educate and improve the financial literacy of the working class community he is a part of. Shawn’s sensitivity to the lack of mental health awareness in the urban community has led him to become a certified life coach. He operates as a sounding board to those seeking to uncover and heal from past traumas. Shawn shares his creative side with the world through the poetry he writes, publish and sometimes performs. A storyteller at heart he strives to enlighten, brighten and uplift the lives he touches.

About Executive Consultant Tabitha Morris, LCSW:

Tabitha Morris is a committed leader, whose passion is helping others live life in abundance. As a native of Washington, D.C., Tabitha has experienced both personal and environmental traumas and attributes her success in life to her faith in Christ and the leadership she had the opportunity to serve at a young age. As a result, she has committed herself to empowering individuals and communities in disadvantaged situations. She is the Founder and Executive Director of Global Love Connection, Inc.,

a non-profit that serves, develops, and trains youth and professionals for career and entrepreneur success.

In addition to her current role as Executive Director, Tabitha is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. She currently serves as at her local church; serves as an administrator for the Black Mental Health Professionals National Virtual Board; Provides Consultation Services through her national program Clinical Connector, which assists with the development of programming for Mental Health Professionals and Community Advocates in private, public, and governmental settings. She possesses a Master’s Degree in Social Work and graduated with honors from University of New England.

In her spare time, Tabitha enjoys traveling, spending time with loved ones, and reading. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and enjoys learning about new cultures.
